Arkhangelsk State Technical University was established in 1929. At present the University students study at 49 programs of higher education in 8 departments forestry, natural resources, mechanics, chemical technology, wood mechanical technology, power engineering, building engineering, as well as programmes of distant education and in 4 institutes: economics, finance and business; oil and gas; law and entrepreneurship and information technologies. The department of translation and translation science provides training in linguistics and intercultural communication. Arkhangelsk State Technical University offers postgraduate courses in 18 specialties and has three councils for those who seek doctoral and candidate academic degrees. The normal study period under the greater part of programs is 5 years. Starting from 2008 Arkhangelsk State Technical University has been gradually passing to a two-level system of education: bachelor-master. The period of studies for bachelors is 4 years, for masters – 2 years. The total number of students studying at Arkhangelsk State Technical University makes approximately 13 thousand, including 68 from the countries of Africa, South America, Asia and CIS. The quality of education is ensured by the education quality management system that passed certification in 2008.
