The history of the National Research Technological University "MISiS" began almost a hundred years ago, when in 1918 the Moscow Mining Academy was founded, in which the metallurgical department was opened. The university was constantly expanding, and already in 1921 the departments were transformed into universities, and by 1930 the academy was divided into six independent institutes. To date, three of them - the institutes of steel, non-ferrous metals and mining institute have again united in one educational institution - the National Research Technological University "MISiS". In 2014, the NITU "MISIS" and the Moscow Mining University merged. To date, the National Research Technological University "MISiS" includes three Russian and one foreign branch and nine institutes located in Moscow
